Copper is industrial pure copper. Because of its rose red color and purple color after the oxide film is formed on the surface, it is generally called red copper, also known as red copper. Copper is a relatively pure type of copper, which can generally be considered as pure copper. It has better conductivity and plasticity, but poorer strength and hardness. Copper has excellent thermal conductivity, ductility and corrosion resistance. Trace impurities in copper have a serious impact on the electrical and thermal conductivity of copper. Among them, titanium, phosphorus, iron, silicon, etc. significantly reduce the conductivity, while cadmium, zinc, etc. have little effect. Sulfur, selenium, tellurium, etc. have very small solid solubility in copper, and can form brittle compounds with copper, which has little effect on electrical conductivity, but can reduce processing plasticity.
Copper has good corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, sea water and some non-oxidizing acids (hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid), alkali, salt solution and various organic acids (acetic acid, citric acid), and is used in the chemical industry. In addition, copper has good weldability, and can be processed into various semi-finished products and finished products through cold and thermoplastic processing. In the 1970s, the output of red copper exceeded the total output of all other copper alloys.
Copper is much more widely used than pure iron. Every year, 50% of copper is electrolytically purified into pure copper for use in the electrical industry. It is mainly used in the production of electrical equipment such as generators, busbars, cables, switchgear, transformers, and heat-conducting equipment such as heat exchangers, pipes, and flat collectors for solar heating devices. Oxygen in copper (a small amount of oxygen is easily mixed in copper smelting) has a great influence on conductivity, and the copper used in the electrical industry must generally be oxygen-free copper. Copper is also used in motor short-circuit rings, electromagnetic heating inductors, high-power electronic components, terminal blocks and the like. It is also applied to doors, windows, handrails and other furniture and decorations.
