Steel billets are products obtained by casting molten steel from a steelmaking furnace. Steel billets can be divided into two main types based on manufacturing process: die casting billets and continuous casting billets. The die casting process has been basically eliminated.

There are two main types based on appearance:

Slab billets: The ratio of cross-section width to height is large, and they are mainly used for rolling plates.

Square billets: The cross-section width and height are equal, or the difference is not big, and they are mainly used for rolling steel sections and wire rods.

1. According to the production process or method, there are three main types of steel billets: one is the steel billet directly cast from molten steel through the continuous casting equipment of the steelmaking system; the second is the semi-finished steel product processed from the steel ingot or continuous casting billet produced by the steelmaking system through the rolling equipment of the steel rolling system; the third is the semi-finished steel product processed from the steel ingot produced by the steelmaking system through the forging equipment.

According to the shape and purpose, steel billets mainly include square billets, slabs, rectangular billets, etc. Among them, square billets and rectangular billets are mainly suitable for rolling hot-rolled strip steel, threaded steel bars for construction, ordinary wire rods, high-speed wire rods and various small materials; slabs are mainly used for rolling medium and thick plates and hot thin plate coils.

Uses:

Steel billets are originally steel materials. After processing, they can be used to make mechanical parts, forgings, and various steel materials. Steel Q345B channel steel and wire are the functions of steel billets.

Steel billets refer to semi-finished products used to produce steel materials. It is relatively easy to distinguish between steel billets and steel materials. However, for some steel billets, they have the same specifications and the same uses as steel materials (such as rolled tube billets).

Material:

Continuously cast steel square billets and rectangular billets are mainly represented by plain carbon steel, low-carbon and low-silicon cold-rolled materials, high-quality carbon structural steel, low-alloy high-strength steel, special steel grades, etc.

Billets are produced through three process methods:

First, through the continuous casting equipment of the steelmaking system, molten steel is directly cast into billets;

Second, the steel ingots or continuous casting billets produced by the steelmaking system are processed by the rolling equipment of the steel rolling system to produce semi-finished steel products;

Third, the steel ingots produced by the steelmaking system are processed by forging equipment to produce semi-finished products.
